Even though pharma companies have invested prodigious amounts in novel discovery technologies, such as structure-based drug design, combinatorial chemistry, high-throughput screening and genomics, there was not much improvement in drug development. Hence, many drug developers are inclined to finding new uses for existing drugs: drug repositioning. Companies founded exclusively on repositioning are emerging, proving the dire needs and interests of the industry. Our strategy is one of the most effective methods for drug repositioning which involves finding a new target for the known drugs, whose benefits include shorter development cycles and faster drug approval, therefore improving the overall productivity. If repositioned drugs¡¯ efficacy is proven in animal models, phase II clinical trial can begin.
